We unpacked cornhole first! We have priorities!
You found us! Welcome to a story about what a little (or some say a lot!) of shared elbow grease and passion can do! While we watch the paint, grout, glue, mortar, sealant, stain, and varnish dry we will dust off our boots to post our journey as we go. We are very grateful for so many offers to share the fun of our new home (shh don’t tell them it’s really work…). Lots of love, Melissa+Nate

Week 7: Ready or not we're moving in!
It only took one all nighter, a team of family and friends and a 24ft Uhaul (with no breaks) to move Niko in! Many, many thanks to our family for all of the heavy lifting! Boxes are all over and we can't find anything!
We unpacked cornhole first! We have priorities!

Week 6: Floors, floors & stairs
Matt & Beth (his wonderful fiance!) made their first trip up with all their tools! The floors were refinished, the team tackled the stairs (risers, stringers & treads, oh my!) and the kitchen had a mini face lift thanks to Beth's painting skills!

Week 5 - Time for a little fresh air
Although it seems that we are all focused on the inside we have been doing a bit to enjoy the property (after all that is what SOLD us! In true style we sit out in our camping chairs on the back deck and enjoy our meals and wind down for the day....here's the tour!
Entry into our garden (of overgrown grape vines and weeds!) / view into the courtyard
Our future chicken coup / path to the backyard from the courtyard
Future corn-hole lawn / lily pond in the backyard
One of the many hydrangea plants that are flowering. Gorgeous! / View of the front door & deck.

Week 5 - Carpet and more!
All the prep work has paid off...we had carpet and a new garage door installed today! Here's some photos!
Old garage door down...maybe a new dance floor, giant ping pong table, bridge to no-where?

Week 4 - homework
We are getting closer and closer to moving in. Carpet and new garage door is coming on Friday! We now have renters (yay!) so our move date is set! Only one more weekend left to finish up flooring so we bring back to Davis 'homework' (literally!). Time for sanding and painting the kitchen cabinets!

Weekend 4 - demo continues but it is starting to come back together
We got news that the carpet is in! Yay....but wait we're not ready! This weekend we demoed the half bath and hustled to get the tile in so carpet can come next week. Only 14 hours of tiling, 7 hours of grouting, more lunges than my bodypump gym class and 10 boxes of tile later...we're ready for carpet!
I think this is Nate's favorite part!
Yes we had to have the diamond pattern! There were some tricky cuts!
All ready for grout!

Weekend 4 - more trips to the happiest place on earth?
While looking for a receipt to return extra tiling supplies I couldn't believe the daily receipts from Home Depot (sometimes multiple daily receipts). Saying we've been there A LOT is an understatement! They know Niko by name! We have taken many pointers from our dads, grandpapas and all around handy friends but we are clearly earning our creds with being one of the regulars at Home Depot.

Weekend 3 - prep, prep, prep
It was a shorter weekend but we had great workers! (thanks moms, dad and Steve!) Lots of pulling carpet tack stripes and rows and rows of staples from the floors. Lots more trim painting and painting new doors. The guys went back to geometry to create new stair runners and they look great! All prep work to get ready for the next weekend of flooring. Maybe the carpet will come any day now....
Lots and lots of tack stripes and staples....this is the glamorous part of the job!
Stairs prepped and ready for new stair runners and hardwood...
twenty freshly painted doors for five new closets! way to go paint sprayer!

Weekend 2 - fun with flooring
Another one of our surprises was finding linoleum under the carpet and padding in the hallway and stairs! So what started off as an easy thought 'just quickly rip up the old linoleum so we have the fresh start for the new hardwood' ended up with a weekend of scraping, sweating, pealing, and moaning! 100 degrees and pealing 60's linoleum is not what we'd planned for. I promise to the end of my days I will never punish anyone with installing linoleum. I can't decide which was worse...the molding and decomposing carpet or the linoleum. The best news of all is it is all gone!!! We are ready for hardwood and Niko is ready for a nap!)
Before picture with carpet / linoleum surprise!
Piles and piles of linoleum!
Clean stairs ready for the beautiful new hardwood!
