After a long successful day the pantry is just about done. A few finishing touches and it'll be ready for drywall this week!
You found us! Welcome to a story about what a little (or some say a lot!) of shared elbow grease and passion can do! While we watch the paint, grout, glue, mortar, sealant, stain, and varnish dry we will dust off our boots to post our journey as we go. We are very grateful for so many offers to share the fun of our new home (shh don’t tell them it’s really work…). Lots of love, Melissa+Nate

Lighting surprise!
Supervisor Niko is on duty; protective eye ware, check! Out comes the old lighting and soon enough new fancy LED lighting!
We even lucked out with the old lighting and will only have small holes to fill instead of replacing the entire wood ceiling! Yessssss!

Subfloor & pantry
Well today may warrant a double post since so much is happening...the sub floor is in and Niko (and me) couldn't be happier!
The pantry is starting to take shape and with luck it will be fully framed by tonight...measure once, cut twice...err maybe that backwards?

Appliances have arrived...
The shiny new appliances have arrived! Here's the fridge...isn't she a beauty!
I think we may have had a Costco experience...although we've measured, re-measured and factored it in the design (just like that gallon of mustard...) it just looks so much bigger now that it's home! It will be a few weeks before we can plug her in and take her for a test drive!

Passed inspection!
This week the newly framed window was put in! This may just take the edge off with how cold it's been and will certainly help with the rain! The record temp has been 49 degrees...not too bad for an open floor and window. We passed the first inspection and have the go ahead to continue electrical and to put in the subfloor!
Nate and Rene made a full day of electrical work this weekend. No surprises and no shocks! Now we have all of our new outlets placed and are ready to seal up this floor!

No more laminate flooring...ever!
We've had our fair share of removing laminate flooring (stairs, hallway, under carpet...) and will never, ever, ever think of installing this anywhere! I got to pull the ol' "bun in the oven" card and left poor Nate to all the scraping!

Plumbing away!
Rene, Steve & Nate tackled a huge amount on the to-do list with moving the gas lines, HVAC lines, water and waste! (I think they even enjoyed themselves!)
All hock-ups are in there new locations and ready for the inspector...but the weekend is not done...next maybe a window, some subfloor or is it electricity time?

Hammer time...
The rest of the subfloor was removed yesterday and today the wall is coming down and beams are going up! We had a break in the rain early this morning and Nate, Daddy and Steve were on the job!
last time we will see that wall!
Going...
...
...
GONE!!!
Perfectly level = one happy engineer!
Some take weekends and vacations...we take down our kitchen!
Nate was happy to be ahead of schedule with starting the demo last weekend the real demo took place yesterday! Daddy, brother and Nate we're unstoppable and left no cabinet behind. So far all but one cabinet made the move to the garage and only one trip to the dump...so far!
No more dishes for this sink!
One long day...
Chatting about where to place the post...
Up next...down goes this wall!
On tap for this St. Patty's weekend is finishing up removal of the subfloor, removing the wall between the kitchen & dining room, new beams and post, new electrical, new plumbing and a new framed window! To be continued...
Ready, set...move!
With the ever so efficient duo, a.k.a. Polly & Russ, we moved out of our kitchen and converted the basement to our new studio kitchen this weekend. We will be eating lots of flavor wave meals and now that it's actually raining....some wet BBQ-ing will be in out future...
All prepped and ready for demo!
When you wish upon a star....
Although it has been a few months since we last posted an update we have been busy gathering inspiration and designing a new kitchen! Of course this was always on the wish list but now with a little Smith on the way we've put the nursery on hold to dive feet first into our dream kitchen!
We have been sketching, drafting, collecting a mountain of photos and catalogs the past few months. Nate had the construction schedule down and has "recruited" some amazingly talented friends and family. I think we have tasks assigned for every willing participant and with luck will be cooking up a storm come the end of April! Here's a few photos of the design...
